"Many EMS First responders on September 11, 2001 and the days that followed are still struggling with illness and facing inevitable death from the results of that horrible tragedy. These American Hero's shall never be forgotten, no matter how far removed we are from the events of that terrible day."
Primum Non Nocere means “first, do no harm”. It is the guiding phrase for medical ethics and oaths. It is also the name of the non-profit organization that helps EMS workers nationwide. Their website states that they aim to support pre-hospital providers during despair, desperation, and need. They have testimonials that give you a glimpse into the lives that they have touched. EMS workers out of work due to an injury got the support they needed to pay the bills or buy groceries. The idea for the foundation started when one EMT was finally fed up with the lack of support for EMS workers.
Louis Cazzetta is the founder and board member of PNNF. He has also been in EMS for a long time. “I’ve been in the EMS world since 1988. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and a couple of months after my 18th birthday, I became an EMT. I started volunteering in Brooklyn. Volunteering back then, we were just like the frontlines, and they treated us like such, not the way it is today, even in New York City, ’cause the staffing was so little.” Louis found that EMS was where he wanted to be and eventually committed to working full-time, but the first spark toward PNNF came from a side job.
Over the past few days the Primum Non Nocere Foundation, Inc board has been busy reviewing and approving 3 separate assistance applications within 72 hours. This weekend we were able to help pay utilities for a NY EMT on disability that has been dealing with medical issues and recently suffered a heart attack. We assisted a husband and wife who are both EMS providers with paying utilities and some gas cards to help bring his wife back and forth to neurological specialists. We sent over $300 in groceries from Amazon Smiles and household goods to help as he navigates through some rough times.

As we worked and volunteered with multiple Emergency Medical Services units within New York City, New Jersey and the Carolina's we have all gained many unique experiences, life long friends and "war stories" that we get to pass on to family and new EMS students.. Over the years we have also seen many of our co-workers get injured on the job, become incapacitated due to illness or suffer a family tragedy and struggle to put food on the table and keep the lights on in their home. In 2015 we got together and decided to do something for the EMS provider and make a difference
You should also know that it can be challenging at times - but we'll train you so you'll know what to do when this happens.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
There are very few organizations out there that assist the Emergency Medical Services in times of crisis, we usually turn to our colleagues who pitch in and do what they can. The Primum Non Nocere Foundation,Inc was created to help support and assist pre hospital care providers when they themselves are in need of a helping hand. Whether it is assisting a family with warm socks, clothing and food after their house has been destroyed by a hurricane or helping keep the lights on as a provider muddles though healing from an injury we do what we can to help.
The Primum Non Nocere Foundation, Inc is a grassroots effort to assist and help EMS providers in times of illness, injury and despair. We can always use monetary donations as well as gift cards which allow us to assist others the way we do. More importantly is asking our supporters to let everyone know about our organization and what we do for the EMS community. Join our email/contact list, post our updates on your Face Book feeds and invite your friends and families in supporting us as well.
Consider contributing as little or as much as you can. Every dollar donated goes towards keeping our programs going.
